Capoeira
Back
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form, a community game that developed in Brazil by African slaves, it has its roots in African rituals. The game involves the playing of musical instruments and singing, martial arts movements such as attacks, defensives and takedowns, and tricks such as acrobatics, flips, hand spins, head spins and contortions. It serves as a means of ritual and body communication and is a source of freedom of expression to all who participate.
Words are not enough to describe the beauty of this game. It is deeply moving to watch and participate in. Esak Garcia has been playing capoeira for 10 years, and currently trains under the supervision of Mestre Galo of the United Capoeira Association.
